European Congress on Migrations

Publicado: 11/04/2010: 461

The Diocesan Retreat House ‘Beato Manuel González’ will hold the 8th European Congress on Migrations. Under the title ‘Europe of people in movement. Overcoming fear. Outlining prospects’, participants from all over Europe will analyse the consequences of migratory movements.

Throughout five intense days, participants will consider the challenges brought about by migratory flows within the pastoral work of the Church. Gaining insight into the phenomenon should help to work out answers to this demanding situation, which should contribute to further evangelization in Europe. People assigned to the pastoral care of migrants in different countries will discuss the causes and results of migrations and their impact on the tasks of the Catholic Church in Europe.

Among the participants there are national Directors of the offices for the pastoral care of migrants – belonging to different Bishops’ Conferences –, as well as representatives from the Vatican and from the political sphere. Msgr. José Sánchez, bishop in charge of the Migration Commission of the Spanish Bishops’ Conference, will open the meeting and introduce the aims.  Several topics are planned to be discussed at the Congress: migratory movements, political systems, globalized economy, women’s perspective on the migratory phenomenon.
